Music for Everyone

Eliminating barriers

Josina is a Registered Music Teacher and holds a Level 10 Certificate from The Royal Conservatory of Music, a Bachelor of Music, University Diploma in Church Music, and Post-Baccalaureate Performer's Certificate from The King's University in Edmonton, Alberta, and a Graduate Certificate in Injury Preventive Keyboard Technique from Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. While in North Carolina, she had the honour of studying the Lister-Sink Method with its creator, internationally-renowned Dr. Barbara Lister-Sink of Freeing the Caged Bird. Josina has also completed courses from the Gordon Institute of Music Learning and the Performing Arts Medicine Association. In addition to teaching and performing, she enjoys presenting, and has presented for MTNA (USA), WPTA (Peru), and CFMTA (Canada). Her students regularly participate in festivals and RCM/CNCM exams.

In 2016, two significant things happened to her: she began studying piano pedagogy and suffered a playing-relating injury. Piano pedagogy taught her that everyone has musical aptitude and ability, but experiencing injury showed her that students of all ages and levels could face obstacles - physical, mental, social, or other - that could impede their ability to realize their full musical potential and live a rich and rewarding musical life. These two experiences set Josina on a lifelong path of learning, discovering, creating, and experimenting. Her goal is to eliminate barriers to student success, whether that be preventing injury, promoting early musical development, or making music education more accessible and equitable.
